262 Cigars

262 Cigars logo

In February of 1962, the last thing President Kennedy did before he signed the Cuban Trade Embargo was to buy 1200 of his favorite Cuban cigars.

He sent out his head of press, Pierre Salinger to procure as many H. Upmann petite coronas as he could. Once he delivered those cigars, JFK put pen to paper and signed away.

It’s not that he signed it but how he went about doing it. President Kennedy made sure to get his before we could get ours & then outlawed it.

It sounds like an urban legend but it’s a true story. “2/62” is a reference to the month and year that JFK signed the Cuban Trade Embargo, February 7, 1962.
